While watching the Miss America pageant no longer makes us want to be among the company of 18 year olds (of appropriately evenly distributed ethnic backgrounds) with spray tans and bikinis, the Academy Awards will and always will make us want to be a movie star! We wanted to love our girl Anne Hathaway (classiest young star by far), but we have to say, her hosting with James Franco was kind of awkward. First of all, James seemed to have the charm of an 8th grade boy at Sunday lunch with his grandparents, and Anne was just a little too giddy. Eek. We still love her though, and she looked gorgeous (and really, who cares if you don’t do a great job if you look gorgeous).
Favorite dresses of the evening were Sandra (so classic and tasteful) and Cate Blanchett (love the structure and the little risk!). Also loved Gwyneth. Our worst was Scarlett (when will these people learn that the Oscars is not a place for patterned flower fabrics?!). What did you love / hate?
To take bets on the Bachelorette. It’s down to two, and Frank is a tool. Below are the same photos Ali uses each week to decide who her one true love is and who to place photo side down. For whatever reason, Bachlorette / Bachelor cast photos always look somewhat different than the cast does on TV. However. The dogtags remain the same. Here is Roberto, and here is Chris. We ask you, dear readers, who will win?
As we learned from our girls, Charlotte, Samantha, Miranda, and Carrie…”Sometimes you just have to get away with the girls”. It’s not Abu Dhabi, but Readers Elinor, Melby, Edykes and elaney are headed to Costa Rica for 8 days. But don’t worry…the elaney interns will take good care of you while we’re gone. Here’s what you have to look forward to:
Monday: Reader Ace Tuesday: Reader ct Wednesday: Reader Mo Thursday: Reader JLAL Friday: Reader Isa
We will miss you! And we can’t lie…we are afraid of being without bberry / email / elaney for 8 days…but we will take lots of pics and post them when we’re home. Pura Vida!
New season of the Bachelorette premieres Monday! As requested by Reader Betsy Metcalf, you wanna know all about it. Here’s the trailer from ABC…Ali is BY FAR the coolest girl that has been on the show. Vicious Vienna and Disney Princess Tenley are so out, and Ali is in!! The fellas look kinda cute this season (little cheesy…imagine that). Apparently they really try to find guys that they think the girl will like, so here’s to hoping for Ali!
So, reader survey…are you still wrapped up in the Rose Ceremony or are you over it like Jake was over Elizabeth’s attitude?
Drench yourself in words unspoken…Live your life with arms wide open…Today is where your book begins…The rest is still unwritten…
Not sure if it was the return of The Hills or impending trip to LA, but last week, during spin class, “Unwritten” came on, and let’s just be honest…the tears started to flow and there was no stopping them. Not cool, we know. And there was definitely no feigning of tough bad-a road biker that day. But it was an honest moment. There is just something so inspiring about thinking about the future at your fingertips. Dreams being realized. It touches the same part of your heart that Randy Jackson does when he tells the proverbial Dairy Queen waitress with chipped blue nail polish at AI auditions, “Welcome to Hollywood!”
So tonight, as the sun set on the Hollywood Hills, and it was finally time to stop wearing sunglasses inside with the hope that someone might think the wearer was famous, there was a moment that we felt like…the future really is unwritten (or at least unknown). In the most exciting and encouraging way possible. To dreams!
So, regular readers know, here at elaney, we are obsessed with Glee. And by obsessed, we mean listen to the music all day, sing along, dance in the car, dream about it…it’s pretty much all Glee all the time (“And there ain’t nothing I can do about it,” – “You Keep me Hangin On”). But before you get all “Hate On Me Hater” about it, “Imagine” the beauty of having a soundtrack to a 60 minute TV show be the soundtrack of your life.
First of all, something interesting is always going on. It could be a bad “Bust Your Windows” situation, but even on days that you feel that life “Gives You Hell,” you “Don’t Stop Believing” that something good is going to happen. Plus, all the episodes wrap up with nice enough ending in 60 minutes which means that even if “You Can’t Always Get What You Want” (re: be a famous Broadway star), you can at least “Take a Bow” and call it a day. So Glee, and Gleeks, we at elaney just want you to know that “My Life Would Suck Without You.” And we thank you, thank you for allowing us to show our “True Colors” and give into our love for the high school musical days.
Maybe it was better that elaney was never granted the beautiful voice she always longed for in high school. If the number of times doing drive-bys with Reader Isa and singing “Survivor” by Destiny’s Child is any indicator, this could’ve likely been our past realized…so, what did everyone think of the premiere?!
