We all know people that are so “holier-than-thou” about television. When asked if they’ve seen a certain show, (condescendingly) “No …I don’t really watch much TV.” Okay fine. You didn’t go to Harvard. Wipe the smug look off your face. And now with DVR these TV-snobs (aka liars) have something new to be snobby about. “No, I don’t have DVR…I really just got cable…” Sigh.

But…we’ve discovered that DVR has decreased our awareness of all the new shows (and we are not being smug – we’re being sheepish)! All we ever watch is DVR-ed episodes of Mad Men, Top Chef, and Real Housewives (and the Bachelor when it’s on…duh). We don’t even know what’s up. This Glee is supposed to be good….how’s Jay Leno….please report! What’s the new good TV for fall?

It’s that time again. Summer! (Well, almost). And that means time for margaritas and guacamole as the sun sets. Our favorite guacamole is from NYC’s Dos Caminos, and since there is a DC chef on Top Chef, we decided to be festive and track down the recipe. Yum!

Dos Caminos Guacamole
Chef Scott Linquist, Dos Caminos

Makes 4 servings

Ingredients

2 tablespoons finely chopped cilantro leaves
2 teaspoons finely chopped white onion
2 teaspoons minced jalapeño or Serrano chilies, seeds and membranes removed, if desired
1/2 teaspoon Kosher salt
2 large ripe Hass avocados from Mexico, peeled and seeded
2 tablespoons cored, seeded, and finely chopped plum tomatoes (1 small tomato)
2 teaspoons freshly squeezed lime juice

Instructions

In a medium size bowl, use the back of a spoon to mash 1 tablespoon of the cilantro, 1 teaspoon onion, 1 teaspoon of minced chile, and 1/2 teaspoon salt together against the bottom of the bowl.

Add the avocados and gently mash them with a fork until chunky-smooth. Fold the remaining cilantro, onion, and chile into the mixture. Stir in tomatoes and lime juice, taste to adjust the seasonings, and serve with a basket of warm corn tortilla chips.
