The Today Show is Ruining the News…And Our Mornings

We have LONG been devotees of the Today Show. We’ve watched it for years, and we’ve read every book we can find out our hero, Katie Couric (how can you not love a smart, ex-cheerleader with style?). Sure we don’t love Meredith, despite throwing in the towel on the campaign against her, but for the most part, we’ve been long time loyal patrons. But lately, it’s really gotten out of control. Not only are there FAR too many gimmicky comedic schticks that should be reserved for Leno and Letterman (Meredith at the McDonald’s drive thru – come on), but when they do report the news, it’s all about funny looking babies and new diet tricks. Look, this is the staff of elaney, we aren’t looking for only hard news in wartorn countries, but the Today Show is starting to insult our intelligence. At least later in the day, Horrible Hoda and KLG call a spade a spade and don’t pretend to be actual news. And so we’ve decided, not flippantly and with deep regret, to make a switch. Sigh. Never thought this day would come. What to you recommend for catching the morning news?

We try to keep elaney a happy place. We don’t like to say negative things about people unless it’s really called for. However, we’ve given it two years now, and we just can’t get comfortable with Meredith Viera on the Today Show. We don’t exactly have a Jessica Alba situation on our hands, but Meredith Viera is just no Katie Couric. Obviously that Katie Couric can dress like no businesswoman’s business, and we aren’t asking Meredith to have everything we love about Katie, but we just don’t get why Meredith gets to have our dream job?!? Is she really as good as Jane Pauley, Barabara Walters, and of course, our beloved Katie Couric? We’re trying to keep a Katie Couric style open mind, but we just don’t see it. Readers, what do you think?

In the post-Katie era of The Today Show(here’s to hoping she comes back!), Natalie Morales is our favorite host. As you all e-news mongers know, she’s pregnant with her second child! Natalie, our fellow marathoner, has one son Josh with husband Joe Rhodes. She knew she was pregnant when she started craving a cheeseburger and oranges – her first pregnancy favorites. She’s due September 16 and is already planning her get-the-baby-weight-off segments when she comes back from leave. We will miss her while she’s gone, and this means more Horrible Hoda, but we congratulate her and her growing family!
