Gruyere Baked Grits

They taste gourmet, and they aren’t hard to make.  They might give you a heart attack, but you’ll definitely die happy.

Ingredients:

  • 1 qt. milk
  • ½ cup butter
  • 1 cup uncooked real grits
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • ½ tsp. pepper
  • 1 egg
  • 1/3 cup butter
  • 6 oz. Gruyere cheese, grated
  • ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese

Directions:

Bring milk to boil over medium heat, stirring often.  Add ½ cup butter and grits.  Cook, stirring until mixture is consistency of oatmeal.  Remove grits from heat.  Add salt, pepper, and egg, beating until well combined.  Add 1/3 cup butter and Gruyere cheese.  Pour into greased 2-quart casserole dish.  Sprinkle with Parmesan cheese.  Bake at 350 for an hour.
