Everybody Wang Chung Tonight; alt title, Ode to Summer Camp

On the whole, our late twenties has surprised us as a pretty fabulous time in our life.  Do we have the beginnings of wrinkles?  Yes (but nothing you couldn’t botox away), but do we also have the security / confidence / settledness that comes from not moving across the country and changing marketing assistant jobs and friend groups every six months? Holding down one job for 2.5 years and counting.  We call that progress.

However, every now and then it’s fun to reminisce about things like going to summer camp and having 20 new best friends in 5 days.  Or Alternative Spring Break.  Or singing Kumbaya with a bunch of people after a Habitat Build.  And going home and telling all the laypeople in your life about how much you’ve learned and changed.  And having them look at you with feigned interest and then ask you what you want for dinner.

This past weekend was the most fun weekend we can remember in a long time.  Running a Ragnar relay from Miami to Key West (198.5 miles) with 11 other people in 2 vans through the night sleeping for only 2 hours in a sleeping bag in the gym of a high school was such a blast.  You can follow the journey here, but thank you a million times over to Alison Holby for including us!  See ya in 2013 to celebrate 31!!  If you have even one ounce of crazy extremist in you (and we only have one ounce of course), we totally recommend a Ragnar Relay.

View from the van. 2 legs down and getting ready to do our last run over a few bridges inching into Key West.

We're done!

Oysterfest ’11

Someone forgot to tell us that we aren’t 21.  Oops.  But no worries, at least I’m still wearing a J.Crew cardigan and shell combo.

Countdown to the Countdown to Christmas

Last year we started an annual 12 Days of elaney Christmas, and this year we can’t wait to continue the tradition!  We haven’t asked for help in awhile, but we’d love to know…what kind of Christmas tips do you need?  Romantic songs to play by the fire (we may have to get Dr. Love back for that one), good gifts for co-workers, what do you buy your boss, cute holiday outfits, etc.  Let us know how we can help!

Christmas List

The countdown has begun to the annual elaney’s 12 Days of Christmas! The interns are hard at work coming up with the best Christmas recipes, fashions, and gifts!  But in the meantime, we are working with emum on our own Christmas list (ess fiiiiiine to still get gifts from Santa in your late twenties), and we want to know, what is on your Christmas list!?

    NYC…Don’t Mind If We Do

Oh it was good to be back.  Will we ever get to live there again?  We really hope so.  ATL, you’ve been good to us.  Stable.  Get up.  Go to work.  Wear loafers.  Like college football.  Drink, not to excess.  But oh NYC, how we love thee and all thee hipster / red wine / black nail polish / quirky ways.

Check out a few fun moments!!

In An MMMBop You’re Gone (So Just Embrace The Cheesy Music You Love)

AOL Music (sidebar: do you judge people that use aol for email?  We do) released a list of the 100 worst songs of all time.  And we don’t know what is UP with AOL users…these songs are like the 100 best songs!  Check out the whole list here. Some of our favs:

95: “Mambo #5″  (Dear BHS c/o ’01, This Will Forever Make Us Think of You and Homecoming Week.  Love, elaney)
    88:  ”Thong Song” Sisqo
79:  ”My Humps” BEP (“elaney, sometimes when I’m driving back from ATL, I listen to that song.  You know, about the humps.  My humps my humps.” -emum)
73:  ”Tootsee Roll” 69 Boyz (Dear Reader Frances and Reader Isa, PLEASE tell us you remember buying the single at Turtles and spending the rest of the afternoon doing a Tootsee Roll / Bankhead Bounce combo)
61:  ”Walk the Dinosaur” Was Not Was (Boom, Boom, Alacka lacka boom)
    55: “Wasn’t Me” Shaggy
42: “We Didn’t Start the Fire,” Billy Joel (WHAT?? This is a classic!)
41: “Blue, Ba Da Be” Eiffel 65 (Um, only just now did we realize that this does not say “I’m blue, if I was green I would die…”)
39: “Physical” Olivia Newton John (Um, so good.)
17: “MMMBop” Hanson (Have definitely listened to this on repeat.  All day.  Today.)
16:  ”Hollaback Girl” Gwen Stefani (Favorite song to spin to!!  That and Maneater.  No lie.)
03: “Ice, Ice, Baby” Vanilla (Um, no way.  Everyone knows all the words to this.  And we at elaney will be happy to rap them for you!)

What songs that the world loves to hate do you hate to love?!?

    Emmy’s Best Dressed (and Worst)

Ah award shows.  Ye know not what thee do to us.  Like the Miss America pagent (even in our late twenties), there is no way we can watch you and not wonder, ‘can we one day stand on that stage’?!?  Our picks for favs are Claire Danes and Lea Michele (so cliche to pick the girl who loses a lot of weight recently, but what can we say, Rachel Berry looks absolutely gorgeous).  Our girl January Jones, aka the most beautiful woman in the girl, is really so breathtaking she can do no wrong, but this dress was a little much for us.  It reminds us of what we feel like emum wants to say to us, “Can’t you just be normal?”  We know that this will be controversial, but we thought Heidi Klum’s dress was so obvious it was kind of lame (you’re A-List Heidi, no need to stoop to get attention), and we have to give worst dressed to Christina Hendricks.  You are wonderful, but this dress does nothing for you.  Thoughts?!?
