“I do” Want to Be Kate Middleton

Designers from around the world are sketching dresses from Kate Middleton (seriously?), and people.com has a gallery full of them.  Check out this one from Ralph & Russo.  Although, Monique might be our favorite (toss up).  Check them all out here, and let us know which one you like.

Frocks for Frolicking into Spring

“You can have whateva you like.  You can have whateva you like…” – Anya Marino, folk cover of T.I.’s hit***

There is nothin’ we love like whipping out a new spring dress when the air is still a lil chilly.  And it’s so timely – now that we’ve discovered folk covers of hip hop songs, we’re really into pairing two things that aren’t supposed to go together.  Red wine and shrimp.  Spring dresses and cool air. Open toed boots.  Hip hop and folk singers.  Having a new spring wardrobe and not being completely broke.  You get the drift.

So what are some cute spring work / day dresses that don’t break the bank? Banana is kicking off the new season with some cute ones.  Here’s a do, and a don’t.

Don’t: No waistline = no go.

Robert Rodriguez Is Even Better a Season Later

This was our FAVORITE dress (in purple) from all of 2009.  It was $700.  Now, it’s $400 and you can only get it in black, but it. is. so. beautiful.  The kind of dress that looks good on all women.  What do you think??

Black to Basics

Sometimes we worry that we don’t take enough fashion risks.  We love jeans, black tops, cream camisoles, LBDs, and gold jewelry.  The color scheme of the elaney office is completely tan, cream, brown, and white (little green and blue accents).  We hate pink.  But then, we see cute little simple outfits like this.  And we remember.  Simple is lovely.  Check out this beautiful DVF dress 30% off.

New Year Same Old NYE

We have a love hate relationship with New Years.  The reason is threefold:  1) there is so much expectation to have so much fun on NYE, and expectations are a risky animal.  Sure, it’s sort of fun, but it’s too much pressure.  It’s most likely not going to deliver.  Most occasions where crowds feel like they have license to behave however they please don’t.  2)  After Thanksgiving and Christmas, all we want is bland food and a minimalist existence.  Champagne and spinach dip = not welcome here.  3)  We welcome a fresh start (this a resolution friendly environment), but January and February are so cold!  Being out in little dresses in December just reminds you of the elements you’re about to face.

So sure, we see some good in the arrival of the new year, but we also have mixed emotions about the beloved NYE.  That said, we have faith that a good NYE is possible.  What are your suggestions for the best way to spend the final holiday evening of 2009?

Dress Wars

Personally, we love two tone black and white dresses around here (see below), but we also happen to know that color block dresses are huge.  They come in structured silhouettes, as well as flowy.  What style do you like better?
