Spring Break 2k11

Reader Mo and I are sadly back from our lil jaunt to Sea Island for lil SB 2k11.  However, we come bearing tips for boozing at the beach!  As you all know, we love ourselves some red wine.  However, in the summer and on the coast – a light little white can hit the spot.  Oh but you hate Chardonnay?  No worries, try Casal Grande Vinho Verde.  Sort of a less sweet and less bubbly prosecco.  Perfect for this wonderful weather!

Getting Short With Me

As you may’ve noticed, skirts and dresses have taken a turn for the tiny.  After whipping into a little roadside Tanger outlet yesterday on the way from the beach (btw, shopping while tan is like going to the grocery store hungry), we were shocked to discover that not a one skirt would fit into the Brookstone High School “no more than 3 inches above the knee” parameter.  Because we had been driving for four hours, listening to oldies with the sunroof open on a beautiful day, we decided to throw caution to the wind and just go for the short skirts.  However, fast forward to the present: back in the office, one day away from the sun lighter, and it might need to be said…if the skirt was not appropriate at 18, it might not be appropriate at 27.  However, it’s still pretty cute.  So help us ladies, what do you think about this new hiked up skirt trend?  Love it or hate it?

Destination Wedding Checklist

List of Clues for Determining Whether of Not You’ve Just Attended a Successful Wedding Weekend:

  • A new pair of shoes ruined
  • A heightened pull to facebook
  • A Sunday lunch inexplicable craving for poolside grilled cheese with ketchup
  • A Monday morning inexplicable desire to listen to Lionel Richie’s “All Night Long” on repeat
  • “Emily and Britt” headbands and koozies still appearing in different bag pockets
  • An ongoing internal lecture about how 27 year olds SHOULD NOT LET THEMSELVES GET SUNBURNED
  • An appreciation for the rare bringing together family, hometown friends, and post-hometown life friends
  • A pang in your heart for Columbus, GA
  • One cell phone lost, and found

High Brow Beach Reads

We’ve never been shy about our love for the good old-fashion completely silly beach read.  Chasing Harry Winston – we’re not above you.  Hollywood Girls Club – sign us up.  However, every now and then, we like to step it up to the notch between completely silly and AP Lit reading lists.  This beach trip, here’s what we have in the hopper:

The Help, Kathryn Stockett

Help

Set in Jackson, MS in 1962, aspiring writer Eugenia Sketter Phelan is home from college and putting together her first manuscript.  She writes the stories of the “help” in the wealthy homes in a scathing book that upsets the traditional Southern balance of power.

Peachtree Road, Anne Rivers Siddons

Written in 1988, the novel is about Old Town Atlanta and is the story of “manipulative, destructive cousin Lucy Bondurant Chastain Venable” (perhaps a modern day Emma Bovary?).

(And Miranda’s Big Mistake and Shoe Addicts Anonymous :) ).

Full report to come.

Long Black Cover (It All) Up_2

A post about a cover up the day after Memorial Day weekend may be too little too late, but at the 11th hour, we discovered the long black, inexpensive cover up we’ve been searching for all season.  If you are still looking for one, get it at Target for under $30.

Beach Cover (It All) Up

You ladies know we love the bikini around here (nothing like having your grandmother wear a bikini to make you realize it’s timeless), but ironically, we happen to love the long beach cover (it all) up.  Haven’t seen a ton of cute ones out there – this one is okay, and it’s only $20 from Target.  Anybody seen other cute cover ups out there?

Manning Up

Yesterday the interns got a few emails from men about bathing suits.  “Dear elaney, 1. we disagree about “making peace” with the one piece (sigh).  2.  what do you recommend for men??  xx, eMaleReader

We recommend men keep it simple.  We like a blue / navy trunk.  Not too long.  And we think it goes without saying, not too short.  This one’s only $20.
