Wicked v. Rent

We know elaney girls love Wicked.  We know elaney girls love Rent.  What we don’t know is which they love more.  They both have great messages, great music, great staging and great plots.  Let’s go head to head:

  • Message:  Oooh this is a tough one.  We have to say tie.  W: Some times things aren’t what they seem / you have to be true to what you believe.  R:  Who are we to judge?  Redemption.
  • Music:  Gotta give this to Rent.  Have sung “La Vie Boheme” on way too many car trips not to.
  • Staging:  Definitely goes to Wicked.  Every scene of the show is like a perfect portrait.
  • Plot:  Wicked.  The way the story comes together is so cool.
  • Bonus for Rent:  It has a cult following of “Rentheads.”
  • Bonus for Wicked:  When Elphaba descends upon the stage during the bridge of “Defying Gravity” is the best moment in theater history!  Gives us chills just to think about.  ”So if you care to find me Look to the western sky! As someone told me lately: “Ev’ryone deserves the chance to fly!”
  • Minus for Wicked:  ”The musical was the most expensive nap I’ve ever taken.” -Bill Woolfolk

VERDICT:  It’s not easy, but we think we give it to Wicked.  At the end of the day, it just feels magic!  Agree?

Katie Holmes Debuts on Broadway!

Our girl Kate Cruise will join John Lithgow, Dianne Wiest and Patrick Wilson in Arthur Miller’s “All My Sons.”  The exact dates as well as the theater are to be announced, but it will be sometime this fall.  Kate will play a Ann Deever, a woman who visits her dead fiancé’s parents (portrayed by Lithgow and Wiest).  The play focuses on Wiest’s character, Joe.

We are so excited, because we loved the movies Thank You for Smoking and Pieces of April.  Katie showed she had some acting chops, and we can’t wait to see Katie back at work.  For more, read here.
