Maybe it’s that it’s the summer. Maybe it’s that we’ve been listening to Barenaked Ladies lately and nostalgic for high school (yet when are we not nostalgic for high school?). Maybe it’s that it’s almost time for one of our favorite days of the year…new planner purchase day! Or maybe we’ve just been in a good mood. But lately…we’ve missed elaney.
If we were still blogging, we’d be writing about how Ashley Hebert is an embarrassment to all single women (and the phrase “dot, dot, dot” makes us want to gouge our eyeballs out and note that punctuation talk does not sexy talk yield). We’d write about best Chick Lit for summer! We’d write about where we are dining during our summer travels. We’d write about how Pippa Middleton is the biggest bad a of the past decade. (We would not be writing about Casey Anthony). And we would of course be quoting some of our favorite elaney regulars…
Reader Melby: ”I really miss elaney. It’s like when things get hard in my life, I need elaney to guide me.”
Reader g-love (on a distaste for too many ways to communicate): ”I just can’t do it anymore. Now, every time I get on gchat, I just feel dirty.”
elaney: ”We were talking about The xx…” emum: ”The who?” elaney: ”The xx.” emum: ”I don’t know who they are.” elaney: ”Shocker mom, here I thought you were so into Indie Rock. Just listen to the story.” emum: ”Indie rock. Now is that like Kid Rock?”
But we haven’t. But it doesn’t mean we haven’t thought of you. Summer has been great (feel like Melissa Carter leaving The Bert Show), but maybe…maybe one day…elaney will be back…
Thank you for your patience while we were on our sabbatical to find our internet personality. Many of you know that the sabbatical was provoked by a fear that we were putting a little too much out there into cyberspace (a few to many instances of “ooh nice to meet you…I think I’ve read your blog. Do you ever get embarrassed…what do guys think about it…??”). After much consideration (and aided by new music from Cee Lo Green, Avril Lavigne, and Lady Gaga), we’ve decided, you know what – we don’t really care. Plus, the damage is probably already done. And we missed you!!
So, let’s spare ourselves the tearful reunion and get back to business. Two months until Lady Gaga comes to Atlanta. She tells us that we’re “Born This Way,” and we’re pretty sure that emum would say that the image of the boots purchased for said concert are not what she had in mind during childbirth. But since we’re all celebrating Lady Gaga and new beginnings, let’s get real about April 18th at the Gwinnett Center. What song are you (or would you) be the most excited to hear?? xoxo, elaney
emum: ”elaney, Betta (egrandmum) and I went to hear a speaker at lunch today. She wrote a book about 5 things to live by, things like ‘Dream Big,’ ‘Believe You Can Do Anything,’ and ‘Shoot for the Stars.’ I just kept thinking, you should be writing that book!!”
elaney: ”Thanks, Mom, but I’m not sure how America would react to my current set of beliefs, ‘Dream in Moderation,’ ‘Appropriately Manage Your Children’s Expectations About Life,’ and ‘Find Joy in the Moment (Even if Most Moments You Want to Bang Your Head Against the Wall).’”
emum: [giggles] “Well, I don’t know about that, but I do want you to know that one day you wake up and you’re 50. That’s just how it happens. And if there is something that you really want to do, you need to do it now.”
2. Both ebrothers are running in a half marathon with me next weekend. Lots of trash talking. Carter asking Robert if there is a “Big and Tall” division.
3. I’ve been listening to this song on repeat for the past 3 weeks. “All my life I’ve been good, but now, ohhhh I’m thinking what the h”
4. I’m obsessed with my Crock Pot.
5. I can’t get enough Brad Womack, and I hate to say it, but even with the horrible dye job, sweet little Emily won me over.
6. I found a new great neighborhood restaurant – Nino’s on Cheshire Bridge. You feel like a mob bust can happen at any second.
Lately I’ve noticed that I’ve been doing a few things out of the ordinary. And while I cannot confirm that these have to do with the end of elaney, I cannot deny it either.
1. I’ve found myself writing facebook status updates, staring at them in the text box, and deleting.
2. I’ve been texting witty group texts almost everyday to my friends from college (who, incidentally, don’t respond and really don’t think I’m funny anymore).
3. I’ve had an overwhelming urge to hear easy listening, slightly mournful music on repeat. Today’s playlist:
“Damn, I wish I was your lover” – Sophie B. Hawkins
“Eternal Flame” – The Bangles
“I’ll Stand By You” – The Pretenders
“All Out of Love, So Lost Without You” – Air Supply
1. THE BACHELOR PREMIERE!!!!!! It is KILLING me not getting to enjoy this season of the Bachelor with you! ESPECIALLY because Brad Womack was my favorite Bachelor (talk Southern to me, Brad). And OMG – I never thought I would ever say that I’d be okay with a crucifix across a man’s back, but Brad, your sweet pontificating about counseling is just going straight to my heart!
2. I think gyms need to institute a Platinum Status (like airlines) for people that work out all year. You people better back up off my spin bike or (as Taylor from RH of BH would say) I’m gon whip out some [South Georgia] on your [tush].
3. New Years’ Resolutions. Mine are paint my own nails, give away more money and time, and write in my journal everyday.
Miss you Readers! Also, side note, if I don’t start writing elaney again, I’m going to have a serious facebook status-ing problem on my hands.
I’ve thought long and hard about this (probably much longer and harder than what is appropriate for a made-for-fun blog). And I’ve decided, with regret, that in the words of Ross and Rachel, we need to go “On a Break.” I’ve been writing elaney for 3 years (longer than I’ve ever had a job)! I hope it will not be a very long sabbatical, but I am ready to re-vamp the look, the content, and the positioning (but not too much – it will always be a place that your inner 16 year old feels at home). Please become a fan on facebook, and we will let you know when we are back!
elaney was just meant to be silly blog for my friends from college, but it has truly been one of my most fun endeavors. I thank you so so so much for reading it.
