There is no substitute for hard work, but if we learned anything from high school, a little brown nosing never hurts. Need an idea for a fun an festive gift for a (male) boss? We like this Ultimate Grilling Rub set from Williams Sonoma (it rubs us the right way. Sorry, couldn’t resist), and we hope our boss does too!

Buying Christmas gifts for the men in our lives sort of stresses us out. Buying gifts for the emums and g-loves? No sweat. We just go to Lenox and find things we like and then force ourselves to wrap them and give them away (ode to the days when every time elaney had to go to a birthday party, emum got a gift for the honoree and a matching one for elaney. #thatdidn’tstopuntiliwas10 #firstchild #parentscan’tcallmeentitledwhatdidtheythinkwasgoingtohappen?).
However, dads and brothers are another story. HELP us. We don’t want to do something totally boring like a tie or socks, but every time we try to get creative (last year we did a nice restaurant gift certificate for dad), we see dad toss it into the bottom drawer or just give it back to us within 48 hours (Chops was great, dad!). Pretty much if someone gave us anything from Kate Spade or Tory Burch we’d like it…should we just go to filson.com and get something? Help! What are the best tips for buying gifts for boys??

“I don’t want a lot for Christmas. There is just one thing I need…”
The holidays can be a lonely time. And let’s face it, some single women probably get Christmas cards and start to think about the things in their lives they don’t have. But not our Reader Melby. Nope, Reader Melby doesn’t get cards of weddings and babies and lab puppies and feel sorry for herself. Instead, she thinks about the best thing that happened to her in 2011, and she shares that with the world.** That’s right Melissa. You may not have a relationship, but you are never alone when you have a bad a pair of Tory Burch boots.*

And now we have major boot envy!! These tall, dark, and handsome boots are basically the embodiment (embootiment?) of our dream man! Dear Santa, will you please bring elaney a pair so we can stomp around Atlanta with Reader Melby??

*Reader Melby (who arguably gets called out on elaney more than anyone else) graciously gave us permission to write this post with the caveat that we must explain that the Christmas card is a complete joke only to be shared with a few of her close girl friends (and now the Internet).
**The runner up idea for her Christmas card was a picture of her with a man with his face cutout and the words “Your face here in 2012.” (Sorry Melby. We had to.)

emum’s prayers came to be!! It was a white Christmas. Can you believe it? The first in Columbus, GA since 1882.
“I’ve prayed for this my entire life.” – emum.

We write silly Christmas poems with glee!! Check out elaney and ebrothers’ from Christmas Eve. With gifts of Alabama snuggies for the Bama fans in the house.
‘Twas the night before Glendale,
and all through the state,
not a Bama fan was stirring,
just mourning in hate.
The Bama fans were nestled
All snuggied by the TV,
Nothing to watch
Except for Jeop-ar-dy.
Then all of a sudden, so lively and quick,
They heard on the screen,
the voice of Coach Nick.
More rapid than War eagles, his coarsers they came,
and he whistled and shouted and called them by name:
“Now Ingram! Now Julio! Now Hightower and Trent”
off to Glendale they thought that they went.
To the top of the rankings, to the top of them all,
how could they know, oh how far they would fall.
It was just in a twinkling, a change of events,
a pass was dropped by running back Trent.
Saban was screaming, his clipboard was bent,
because they all knew to Orlando they went.
So Saban was sprung from the game in the end,
and Bama fans everywhere thought of what could have been.
But low and behold in 2010, we are from Auburn
and all we do is WIN!

It’s time to plan Christmas Eve!! Christmas Eve at the Woolfolk house is getting increasingly more interesting as we all get older – yet keep the nuclear family alive. That said, we (three adult children and their parents) still read Christmas books the night before Christmas (okay, so elaney tries to read one and no one really pays attention, but you get the idea). We also think that Christmas childrens’ books are a great gift for the little ones in your lives (like Baby Josephine, Baby Cora, and my sweet little goddaughter Baby Polly). We love Eloise at Christmas time! What’s your favorite?

You’re out of cash money! But, you still. can’t. stop. shopping! Well, no worries…check out restaurant.com where they have $50 gift certificates for good restaurants for $25. Then use the promo code “Holiday” for another 80% off! That’s right…non elaney reading edad just got a $50 gift certificate to one of his ATL favs Taverna Fiorentina for $5!! Booze is not included, so try to strategically get the price so that it just covers apps, entrees, and desserts!
