about elaney

a little fashion.  clothes.  friends.  reality tv.  some emum and family.  things that are interesting or have come to mind in the 24 hours since the last post (monday through friday).  a little gimmicky.  a little pseudo-creative.  way too much pink.  some things personal if you’re just reading.  lots of things personal if you know the backstory.  sometimes witty.  lots of puns.  pretty fun.  ever evolving.  pop music.  inside jokes that may or may not translate.  hopeful.  hopefully faithful.  thank you for coming…welcome to elaney!

  • Wow- your new site is great!! So refined.

  • Thanks Kenny. We like it too – the book image is temporary. We’re not sure what to do there though.

  • loving the book image woolfolk. can’t wait to read about the rest of your “favorite things.” totally agreeing so far, especially on smartwater. also, when I woke up sunday morning with dirt on my face and hay in my hair, it hit me: you must blog on Hatchechubbee. Former New Yorker’s perspective on the small town, country way of life? juicy.

  • p.s. congrats…. 4,395 hits!

  • ha! good suggestion, but….we might ruin friendships if we blog on that. kapiesh?

  • laney…random that i wandered into your blog world. the boohers got me hooked. i especially love and relate to the quarter-life crisis headband wearer. so fun to read and distract myself from whatever else i should be doing. take care!

  • Heather – thanks so much for reading! Welcome to our friendly but jaded world. xo

  • Laney, I have enjoyed reading your blog today. I don’t know how I found it, but it is magnificent! Hope all is well for you!

  • Kirbey – thanks so much. Hope you are well too. Please keep reading!

  • elizabethlaney, I truly love reading your blog. Please keep up the great entries. One question, though. Is your blog’s server based in the Pakistan? I ask because all comments are shown to be made 9 hours ahead of Eastern Standard Time. For example, I’m making this entry at 10:40 a.m. EST. Just wondering… And thanks again for the great blog!

  • I am interested in traditional link advertising as well as using link “blurbs” on certain pages of your site, or on certain articles. Perhaps even submitting articles. This includes but is not limited to purchasing a post also. We are open to any idea that would allow us to capture interested readers, but would prefer to avoid the traditional “Ads by Google” and “Sponsored Links” sections.

Please let me know if you’d be open to discussing advertising possibilities further.

    Thanks in advance,

  • thanks c-handler!! we’d probably still be in the triple digits without you and g-love

  • Laney,
I wandered to your blog after someone raved about it. Love it and glad to know others are going through the quarter-life crisis. Keep livin’ the dream! (and running with the dream!)

  • Dom! So glad you like it. Congrats on ATL – that’s awesome. Was that #2 for you?

  • ‘Twas #2! Is it too masochistic of me to already be looking forward to #3 and all that is accompanied by it???
Congrats to you as well! I didn’t know you were running the 1/2 until after you ran it…we could have run together for a bit.

  • It would be masochistic if you felt that way on mile 25, but anything post 26.2 is fair game. Do you have one lined up?

  • just read this intro for the first time. must say i love it. so you. so hemingway. so glad to be here at elizabethlaney!

  • Trust me, at mile 25 I was singing a much different tune ;) . Not sure which one to do next…Disney? Country Music? I want to look at some in the fall…Any thoughts?

  • Chicago! Huntsville is flat too.

  • What happened to the books?

  • The books were never meant to be permanent. I take it you liked them better?

  • I did like the books but the new collage is growing on me.

  • Is it too dark?

  • just a little bit. Is that one of Erin’s photos?

  • I see the books are back. I like the books. They put me in an introspective mood.

  • We hate the books, but we like the color scheme. We will figure out this whole image problem at some point.

  • Yes – that is one of Erin’s photos

  • i love the header! don’t change again!

  • One thing I’ve noticed in the past day or so is that now when you scroll to the bottom of the home page, there is no longer the option to hit a “next page” link to take you to the previous set of posts. Is it just me, or am I just not seeing this link now? Was I hallucinating, and this was never an option before?

  • C-handler, wordpress is having a problem with that. Whenever you can’t click to the next page, just use the monthly archive function.

  • Hi,
I think you’re so adorable and I applaud you for your work. I wanted to let you know that the term “Aging Backwards” is my trademark, so if you use it, please give credit and/or link to me and my Web site.

I’d be happy to be a guest blogger to tell your readers what’s in store at “half-life!” It’s not all that bad…LOL
Thanks and have a super day! :)
    Best,
    Jackie

  • Laney, very impressive. A great insight into your ecclectic interests. Mack and I are honored to be privy to your external monologue. Keep up the good work! KhapunKha – Rosa and Mack

  • Thanks Rosa and Mack! Hope you are well.

  • elaney- pick a race and lets run soon!

  • Hi Elizabeth,

I don’t know where to turn and I need your help for some grassroots advocacy. I run a small self-esteem blog and so I’m prone to noticing things in the media that help cause the self esteem issues of women and girls. And I’ve got a serious social issue with the way Perez Hilton bashes Rumer Willis on her looks. It has gone beyond entertainment. I was hoping you could draw attention to our campaign to stop this cruelty by sharing it with your readers.

I want to start a grassroots campaign to get Perez Hilton to stop his assault on Rumer. I believe the self-esteem of our women and girls is in jeopardy. Go here to just make a quick comment of support, and maybe we can bring awareness to this issue of beauty and value.

And I’m sorry if this is wrong forum in which to ask for support but I feel really strongly about this and ya’ll are my peeps to help bring about change.

  • For people who enjoy reading fragments.

  • kdrix, we assume you are complimenting us on our ability to write concisely – not criticizing our grammar. so thanks!

  • Who is this ‘we’ you refer to?

  • I like the new header!

  • Great to see you on Sunday, elaney! Merry Christmas!

  • Yo! I can’t believe I haven’t said anything yet… Congrats, elaney, on surpassing 100,000 hits on your blog! Keep up the good work.

  • Wow, why have I not found you until now? I just love your site (insert chorus singing “Hallelujah”). Keep up the great posts!

  • liz – welcome to elaney!! we are glad you are here.

  • Hey elaney! I must admit that I am new to the world of blogging and this is my first blog post EVER! I feel so strangely metro and more aware of the world around me. Thanks for the inspiration!

    Dear Elizabeth:

I am a reporter and graduate student at the Columbia Journalism School, and I’m working on an article about Google Talk, a.k.a. G-chat.

Specifically, it’s about the fact that when two Gmail users email each other, they automatically show up in each other’s G-chat sidebars — which can result in virtual strangers, or people like our bosses, clients, or grandmothers’ best friends, appearing on our lists. It can also create accidental stalkers out of us, granting us with what feels like intimate information about when someone is at their desk, what they’re having for lunch, etc. The article is meant to be a lighthearted look at this slice of online life and the etiquette it requires.

I’m writing it for a news wire called the Columbia News Service, which distributes content to more than 400 newspapers across the U.S. and Canada.

I read your post on G-chat invisibility, and I was wondering if it might be possible to set up a time to speak with you for this story, to get your perspective on the situation described above. Would you be available to talk for a few minutes in the next few days?

I can be reached at daf2132@columbia.edu.

    Thanks very much.

    Best regards,
    Danielle Friedman
