The Middleton Effect

Reader g-love’s obsession with Kate Middleton kind of freaks us out (she basically growls when she talks about her), but we get it.  She’s beautiful.  She’s skinny.  Her taste is flawless.  And she was once just a little girl like we all were who grew up to be a princess!  We’ve heard about the Middleton effect since the engagement (apparently the epic blue Issa dress sold out in under 24 hours), and that was just the beginning.  She wears a plain, cream cashmere sweater and all of a sudden goats are on the endangered species list.  The latest and greatest is that Kate, in yet another perfectly played public image descision, has started donning sheer pantyhose.  And even more impressive, she’s pulling them off.  Katie Couric famously told us that “New York women don’t wear pantyhose” (Michelle Obama hates them too), but apparently British women do, because pantyhose sales in the UK have gone up 85%!!  What do you think?  Are you hoping for shiny long legs like Kate?  Or are you still a modern American woman like Katie?

  • I’m a modern woman. No hose for me.

  • i love her so much! but i don’t think i will be wearing sheer pantyhose – though they were in vogue this month as a must :)

  • kate!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Wearing sheer panty hose makes me feel like a 1980′s woman. I feel like I should be wearing shoulder pads, switching to my white reeboks, and heading downtown for lunch humming “working 9 to 5…”

  • Hosiery is great. They make your legs look flawless, and they always get attention. A good quality pair with a high denier feels soft and always adds a touch of class. Women in the 80′s had more style than they do now. It’s not what the media tell you is stylish, it’s how you pull it together. Hence Kate Middleton. Bet she gets more looks than Katie Couric too.
