Emmy’s Best Dressed (and Worst)

Ah award shows.  Ye know not what thee do to us.  Like the Miss America pagent (even in our late twenties), there is no way we can watch you and not wonder, ‘can we one day stand on that stage’?!?  Our picks for favs are Claire Danes and Lea Michele (so cliche to pick the girl who loses a lot of weight recently, but what can we say, Rachel Berry looks absolutely gorgeous).  Our girl January Jones, aka the most beautiful woman in the girl, is really so breathtaking she can do no wrong, but this dress was a little much for us.  It reminds us of what we feel like emum wants to say to us, “Can’t you just be normal?”  We know that this will be controversial, but we thought Heidi Klum’s dress was so obvious it was kind of lame (you’re A-List Heidi, no need to stoop to get attention), and we have to give worst dressed to Christina Hendricks.  You are wonderful, but this dress does nothing for you.  Thoughts?!?

Tuesday Night Meals On Friday

One thing we love about Reader Kenny is that she has the best easy, healthy recipes!  The same woman who taught us to love the Crock Pot shared with us this veggie Tex-Mex lasagna.  So delicious.

But we are running out!  Please share some of your fav easy, healthy Tuesday Night dinners on this last Friday in August.

Ingredients

  • 3/4  cup  bottled salsa
  • 1 1/2  teaspoons  ground cumin
  • 1  (14.5-ounce) can no salt-added diced tomatoes
  • 1  (8-ounce) can no salt-added tomato sauce
  • Cooking spray
  • 6  precooked lasagna noodles (such as Barilla or Vigo)
  • 1  cup  frozen whole-kernel corn, thawed
  • 1  (15-ounce) can black beans, rinsed and drained
  • 2  cups  (8 ounces) preshredded reduced-fat 4-cheese Mexican blend cheese
  • 1/4  cup  chopped green onions

Preparation

Preheat oven to 450°.

Combine first 4 ingredients; spread 2/3 cup sauce in bottom of an 8-inch square baking dish coated with cooking spray. Arrange 2 noodles over sauce; top with 1/2 cup corn and half of beans. Sprinkle with 1/2 cup cheese; top with 2/3 cup sauce. Repeat layers once; top with remaining 2 noodles. Spread remaining sauce over noodles. Sprinkle with remaining 1 cup cheese. Cover and bake at 450° for 30 minutes or until noodles are tender and sauce is bubbly. Let stand 15 minutes. Sprinkle with onions.

It’s Not You, It’s Me. But, Actually, It’s You

Male Reader requested this post, and since we try to give our Male Readers what they want (because we appreciate their participation…), here we go!

Scenario:  Male Reader (who wishes to remain anonymous) was recently dumped, and he feels that the reason she gave (not ready for a relationships) was different than reality (thought he was weird).

We think we ALL know by now that the ultimate reason for whenever things don’t work out is that he (or she) is just not that into you.  But let’s take it a step further, if you’re not that into someone, why? Any what did you say to explain it?

Eat. Pray. Love.

Three words – they sound so easy, yet they can be so difficult.  For all of you out there that love Julia Roberts as much as this Mystic Pizza loving 80s baby, let’s hear it.  What did you think about Eat Pray Love?  Did it make you want to jump for women’s lib joy?  Did it make you feel the travel freedom that comes from lifting your glass any place that doesn’t speak English?  Or did it make you want to Drink, Imbitter, Dislike (kinda like the Bachelor Pad makes us feel)?  For all of you out there that “just want to marvel at something,” did Eat Pray Love put the skip back in your travel bug prone little self?  Or did it feel more like food poisoning, church retreat, and the defeat of the 7th grade dance?

What the Houlihans is Happening?

Yesterday, after taking the red eye back from Colorado, we arrived in ATL at 6 am only to realize that we were locked out of the car.  After calling a locksmith, and waiting an hour, we got into the car to realize that the keys were gone.  After being awake for 24 hours (and working for the past 8 days straight), we started crying and then got into a cab.  The rest of the day was a bit of an exhausted, crying blur that ended with Reader Melby driving us to the airport to meet the tow truck (7 pm – time awake count:  37 hours).  Four and 1/2 hours later, still waiting, (time awake count: 40 1/2 hours), we found ourselves sitting with Reader Melby eating salads and french fries from Houlihans and drinking some beers at the airport.

Yesterday was a complete disaster, and I’m not going to say I never said, “Are you there, God?  It’s me, elaney,” but eventually, I went to sleep so grateful that there is someone out there that will sit with me in an airport while I wait for a tow truck to take my car to get a $600 key made.  Key Takeways:  1) at the end of the day, it could always be worse.  2) Reader Melby is a good one to have in a pinch.
