Song of the Summer

As a fourth grade teacher with less than one week of school left, this intern has summer on the brain, big time.
It seems that every summer has its own song. You know, that one song that when it comes on the radio years later, you cringe as you are taken right back to that summer when it was played endlessly on the radio.
Here’s just a sampling of some real summer winners from the 90’s:
Remember “Mambo Number Five”? (that’s right, summer of ’99). Or Bone Thugs n’ Harmony’s “Crossroads” (‘96). How about “Fly” by Sugar Ray?…ugh, can’t even think about it.
So what will we say years later was the song of 2010? Hopefully “Hey Soul Sister” has run its course, or this intern will take her eyeballs out. What songs really take you back?

Gnarls Barkley, “Crazy” — summer ’06
Kelly Clarkson, “Since You Been Gone” — late spring/summer ’05 (had just broken up with college boyfriend, now husband… yikes.)
2010? i’d venture to say the song of this summer has yet to hit the radio… kesha, lady gaga, rihanna and b.o.b are at the top, but that one song isn’t there for me quite yet.

That LFO “Summer Girls” song. “I like girls that wear Abercrombie & Fitch” takes me back to 8th grade every time. Hated it then, loathe it now!

If you’re a high school class of 2000 like me, the graduation song will take you back to that last summer at home: “as we go on, we’ll remember….”
