Let the Horses Be With You

Since Reader Mo is getting Derby without us this year (not cool), we’re forced to spend our time perusing kentuckyderby.com and daydreaming about seeing Nick Lachey and Vanessa Minnillo during their annual showing.  Curious about Derby fashion?  Check out these great videos (some of them filmed at Reader Mo’s fav store in L-ville, Clodhoppers).  Let the 25 text messages received throughout the weekend all saying “Let the Horses be with you” begin!!

Don’t Pour Some Sugar On Me, But My Girl, Let’s Hear the Other Ideas

Reader egray:  ”Okay elaney, post request:  what are the favorite songs to dance to at weddings?  Besides your favorite by Beyonce, of course.”

Great question Reader egray!  There is nothing more fun than having a little vino and cutting a rug at a wedding, as we were reminded this weekend at Reader Ace’s wedding.  Our favorites?  ”Build Me Up Buttercup,”  ”Keep Me Hanging On,” and “Be Young, Be Foolish,”  to name a few!  Help Reader egray out and let her know what you wanna hear!

More from Work

eBoss:  ”elaney, I was so proud of you when I saw you set up a 9am meeting!  Look at you planning to get here first thing in the morning.”
elaney:  ”ugh, so not my choice.  XX had a conflict.  Plus I figured if I can’t make it in by then I can just call in from the car.”
eBoss:  ”Ah – that makes a lot more sense.”

Warning: Amy Digging Deep is a Tear Jerker

A friend of mine is chronicling her battle with cancer on her blog, and it is just awe inspiring.  I have to share this except from her post about losing her hair…I feel like it is a message for every girl, with or without her hair…

“Today, as I drove through the entrance, a shower of pink blossoms was raining down as the trees were losing their glory of pink petals.  I thought it rather fitting that God should align my hair falling with those pink petals falling, too.  Beans took note then laid herself down on the seat and stared at me all the way to the vet’s office.

And so, here I am.  I find myself confident in God and at the same time somewhat exposed.  I was way more confident about this day coming and moving through it three weeks ago than I am today.  But, I will get through it.

And, this time next year, when those cherry trees are filled with pink-petaled blossoms, I’ll have my own hair back on my head and I will stand under the falling blossoms and smile at God’s goodness with my hands raised to Him!

It’s just hair, Amy.  It’s just hair.

So, where do I draw MY strength?  It’s not from having my own hair beautifully styled.  Nope.  My strength comes from God Who has reminded me today of this passage in Luke 12:5-8.

‘Are not five sparrows sold for two cents? Yet not one of them is forgotten before God.  Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Do not fear; you are more valuable than many sparrows.’”

Too Much of a Good Thing?

As the years go by, you start to do things you never thought you’d do.  One would be:  purchase a bathing suit with a big, Kim Kardashian-esque, gold hoop on it (we do maintain that this is a very classy version of the good hoop on bathing suit look).  The second would be:  consider a matching bathing suit and cover up look.  After working at Sea Island for the summer in college and seeing enough families wearing matching Lily Pulitzer to want to poke out our eyeballs and wear black lipstick, we never thought we’d find ourselves in the matchy, matchy bathing suit category.  However, gotta admit, kinda like this.  What do you think?  Is it uber cute and dainty or is too much Milly swimwear just too much of a good thing?
