Reversing the Streamline in ’09

“There’s gotta be something more.  There’s gotta be more than this.  I need a little less hard time; I need a little more bliss…” – Sugarland

This morning, after running with Reader Grace, we found ourselves strolling through the aisles of Publix during the 7:00 hour.  Maybe it’s because this takes us back to the days of running in the store before high school to get supplies and food for SGA meetings and the like, but we’ve always loved Publix during the 7:00 am hour.  People are in workout clothes; people are dressed for work.  Everyone is just getting ready to face the day.

So, with the aforementioned pensive mood, it was in the cereal aisle, as we reached for the 1,000th box of Strawberry Fields by Kashi of 2009, we realized…there has to be something more.  We cannot eat one more bite of Strawberry Fields with frozen blueberries.  We just can’t.  As good as Strawberry Fields and the Streamline in ’09 has been (and we’d recommend it to anyone else), we’re ready for something new.  So fair readers, two part question today…what new, healthy cereals do you recommend (and we have to have a fruit pairing.  So do include).  And what do you propose for the 2010 slogan (something with a little edge, please)??

  • jump in to 2010!

  • find men in 2010

  • Is strawberry fields good? I like the Kashi GoLean Crunch and Grape Nuts. But, I’m off cereal now and on wheat english muffins with peanut butter and cinnamon.

  • Ditto #2 elaney!

What is “Streamline in ’09″? I missed that one.

  • kashi heart to heart oat flakes with blueberry clusters- not a huge jump from the strawberry- but yummy.

I can only think of slogans NOT to use in 2010:
    not him again in 2010
dont ask where she’s been 2010
    living in sin 2010

    maybe
everything old is new again 2010
    a positive spin 2010

    my rhyming is lame….

  • Reverse the trend in 2010.

    I love quaker oats.

  • I’m boring – I love Fiber One with strawberries or Kashi GoLean with strawberries or dried blueberries. I’m with reader bb though in that I eat English Muffins (light, multigrain) daily!

  • Me too bb and CharMar! The english muffin/peanut butter combo holds me over ’till lunch.

I think I missed the Streamline in ’09 as well

  • streamline in ’09: http://elaneymedia.com/2009/01/13/streamline-in-09/

  • I think you could make a switch to Kashi GoLean Blueberry Waffles (with a glass of milk) and totally just go ahead and replace the cereal. This would be good with a banana, or strawberries on top. Or honey on top would be good too!

  • i like grape nuts with sliced bananas on top. and i’d recommend slicing your banana twice vertically (to make an X down the whole banana) and then horizontally. you’re getting quartered banana pieces, if that makes sense. much tastier.
kashi’s honey toasted oats (their own cheerio-like cereal) are another good option.
Slim and Trim in 2010 (which could also relate to simplifying your life — always a goal for me…)

  • oh, and i LOVE fiber one blueberry muffins…. great for an on-the-go breakfast with a glass of carnation instant breakfast.

  • I am a cereal mixer….so here is my recent obsession:
    1/3 Fiber One
    1/3 Natures Path Heritage Flakes
1/3 Kashi Heart to Heart Honey Toasted O’s
topped with Sliced banana and frozen blueberries :)

  • Love my oatmeal in the morning. Quaker Oats “Lower Sugar” instant oatmeal + little Splenda or Truvia = delicious, hearty b’fast for only 120 calories.

  • I love my homemade granola if I’m on a cereal kick. It’s probably higher in calories but at least it’s fresh with simple ingredients. (I can give you the recipe if you want, elaney).

I typically eat oatmeal in the morning. The high fiber variety keeps me full all morning.

  • yes! after that delicious sweet potato ravioli, you feel free to pass all recipes on

  • carli’s granola= breakfast perfection

or anytime perfection for that matter

  • kashi heart to heart toasted o’s = delish. oatmeal in the winter when it’s really cold out!

  • I am also a huge fan of granola. I wish I had a good recipe (hint elaney: post this infamous recipe), but Trader Joe’s makes some good ones!

  • My healthy breakfast of choice is a kashi dark chocolate cherry granola bar, an activia strawberry yogurt smoothie, and a banana. All transportable, which is a must for me in the manana.
