The Today Show is Ruining the News…And Our Mornings
We have LONG been devotees of the Today Show. We’ve watched it for years, and we’ve read every book we can find out our hero, Katie Couric (how can you not love a smart, ex-cheerleader with style?). Sure we don’t love Meredith, despite throwing in the towel on the campaign against her, but for the most part, we’ve been long time loyal patrons. But lately, it’s really gotten out of control. Not only are there FAR too many gimmicky comedic schticks that should be reserved for Leno and Letterman (Meredith at the McDonald’s drive thru – come on), but when they do report the news, it’s all about funny looking babies and new diet tricks. Look, this is the staff of elaney, we aren’t looking for only hard news in wartorn countries, but the Today Show is starting to insult our intelligence. At least later in the day, Horrible Hoda and KLG call a spade a spade and don’t pretend to be actual news. And so we’ve decided, not flippantly and with deep regret, to make a switch. Sigh. Never thought this day would come. What to you recommend for catching the morning news?

Um, I feel the EXACT same way. Now I watch re-runs of the Hills on On Demand every morning. Don’t judge.

I don’t have time for TV in the morning (and not saying that in a snobby way, elaney). I wake up in time to rush out the door looking half-way pulled together. I listen to NPR on my alarm clock radio…. at least it informs me of what I need to know to not sound very dumb at the office! I’ve grown to like it – never thought I’d say that

I’m with ABC and EmEm. NPR gives good nuggets about local and national news. Especially the morning after an election!

I decided all of this several months ago and moved to GMA. Not crazy about Robin, but can’t stand Meredith and Matt together. He was never suppose to be “in charge.” Ann Curry is so sappy I feel I need a shower after listening to one of her segments. Ugh! Katie could have stayed there forever and should have. The public hates her on the evening news. The sad part is Diane Sawyer is moving to evening news and she will beat Katie so badly and GMA will struggle to get it together.

If Meredith would please come back to the View and Katie Couric would go back to the Today Show, then there will be peace in my world again

I am in total agreement. You can have Meredith and I will have Katie back. Perfect solution.

I watch GMA for a few minutes each morning then watch something on my Tivo . I cannot stand Robin but Diane is great.

I feel like I’ve been waiting for you to ask me this! I have always watched GMA and swear it’s my favorite hour of the day! It will be so sad without Diane, but between Sam Champion (love love love) Chris Cuomo and Robin, it’s so great!! Please give it a chance. They are so great!! It’s better rated by critics than the Today show for very good reason.

I like the first half hour of the Today Show- it’s pretty fast-moving from 7-7:30 and they don’t have time for as many lame jokes. Just a flash of news, a few decent interviews, and weather. I am getting pretty tired of the World Series banter though.

we imagine meredith in the staff meetings putting on a red clown nose and saying “look at me?!? aren’t i funny?!?”

Couldn’t have posted this better myself. Another all time low was the kids’ anchor contest. Seriously? Are you really trying to fill a segment by auditioning children? It’s not worth the time, money or effort unless one of them takes Meredith’s spot.

to which we would reply, “um no. wtf.” if an elaney intern tried to pull that, she’d be writing for the “Enterprise AL Gazette” in about 12 minutes

Longtime GMA fan. Truly think I would be great friends with the whole cast. Adore both Sam & Chris and admire Robin. Appreciate the positive (and real) attitudes they all possess. Actually feel informed when I walk out the door to go to work…
