Running Dresses
While perusing the latest Gap brand, Athleta, we stumbled across a new innovation in the realm of running / walking ladies fashion. In the past, we’ve experienced severe jealousy of “the tennis skirt,” so we were delighted to discover the running skirt! However, this may be taking it to a whole new level. Fair maiden atheletes, do tell: what do you think about the running dress?

oh goodness..is this a joke?? I saw SO many running skirts in nashville last weekend and was really confused. I’m going to stick with my Nike tempo shorts.

Finally! A female counterpart to one of athletic fashion’s greatest abominations – the wrestling singlet. At least it leaves a little bit more to the imagination…

I mean…I’d wear it if it were cool…I tried to do the “running skirt the other day,’ and my roommate shamed me out of my attempt to become a soccer mom too early. Dress is too much.

I like a running skirt, but not a running dress.

no no and no again. if i saw someone running in one of these, i would think she had lost her toddler post- tennis match and was in a desperate search to recover the lil guy.
i think a good rule of thumb: if Paris Hilton might wear it on a jog, then you should not.

I’m glad your readers are all in agreement with a resounding “no!” Tennis skirts are part of the decorum and formality of a sport. Running dresses for suburban/urbanites don’t qualify in the same category.

agree on the running dress… but i’m a huge advocate of the running skirt. got one in every color thanks to the champion brand at target. very comfortable, functional, and some say my legs look better in them than they do in shorts…

these seem like they would be a bit hard to size…

Anything that gets women to be more active and feel great!

At first I said, “Under no circumstances.” Then I began to think, “Didn’t I play a lot of tennis just because those skirts were so cute.” Would I run more if I looked cute walking back to my car?

Running dresses ROCK! Your photo is, unfortunately, what looks like my grandma’s bathing suit – not a running dress! Seriously – who picked that photo?? They (He?) should be forced to wear that heavy duty double knit horror.
The real things are still a bit hard to find but they don’t ride up, breathe fabulously look a LOT better than the shlump tshirt/shorts wear that we’ve all been wearing for 20 years. By feeling a lot cuter already it gets me out the door to get moving (and I do need to lose the 20 I put on post triathlon injury!) I wear my shorts underneath for gym workouts or bodyglide for a run outside.

Definitely not something you would want to wear in the fall.

I guess being a child of the 80′s, a running dress doesn’t bother me at all. I mean… if I could run with big hair and big earings, I would be fine with that too. Anyone else out there poundin’ it out to “Livin’ on a Prayer?” Blondie?

Interesting reading on this running dress. Has anyone or everyone that commented they didn’t like it, actually try it? I run 30 – 35 mi per week, am training for a 50K hilly trail run, climb, ride 50 – 100 miles between road and trail, and do power yoga throughout the week. I am sorry but hands down I absolutely love the dress. Not what is pictured in this blog, but a true performance running dress. The airflow is absolutely amazing — it keeps me cool and comfortable! By the way, I am not a mother — division I two sport collegiate athlete that looks for the latest and greatest in technical performance gear.
Thanks
Nichol

I have to say I have a lovely selection of running/tennis dresses already and won’t go back! The feeling of being athletic and completely feminine at the same time gives me a bit of a rush and I haven’t crossed a finish line yet where I didn’t get mobbed by women telling me how much they love my dress and how great it looks! It’s true, if you have never worn one try it out you won’t be sorry. Forget what other runners might think, it’s your run not theirs, and….this is going to catch on! For the lady in the small town, go on to the Tennis Warehouse website and have a look at the stunning aray of dresses that can easily double as running dresses. I live in a big city and still cant find any in the stores.

I run in tennis dress and love it.
I’m looking for more… And they are so comfortable… Much nicer than leggings and crop top .. ESP when a run turns into a coffee in spring sunshine
